Economic impact

  • 56% of respondents were below the age of retirement
  • 72% of respondents said that PBS/IC affects their work
  • 57% of respondents reported that PBS/IC had a direct impact on their career (26% of respondents are not able to work at all, 26% have cut their hours or changed to part-time and 5% have changed their career completely due to their condition)
  • On average, nearly a quarter of those aged between 16 – 54 years were claiming unemployment or incapacity benefits as a result of their PBS/IC
  • 35% of respondents - who had seen their GP - had done so more than five times in the last year due to their PBS/IC
